L'Organisation Mondiale du Commerce

Le 20 novembre 1999, WTO/GATT lança Gatt.org, un site web décrivant les plans de l'OMC pour le Sommet mondial de Seattle du 30 novembre et contestant les "fondamentaux" du "libre marché" et de la globalisation (le Global Agreement on Tariffs and Trade était le prédécesseur de l'Organisation Mondiale du Commerce, et nombre d'internautes en quête de l'OMC débouchaient en fait sur Gatt.org).

Le 23 novembre 1999, l'OMC rendit public un communiqué de presse condamnant Gatt.org. Le lendemain du sommet, et des manifestations, de Seattle, WTO/GATT publia son propre communiqué, qui reçut une large couverture médiatique. (Etonnamment, et de façon grotesque, le site web de l'OMC consacrait plus de place à Gatt.org qu'aux manifestations, à leur répression et aux arguments des manifestants. Heureusement, la presse, en règle générale, ne suivit pas cette manoeuvre).
